This order follows successful completion of two previous orders from Apex Clean Energy in Oklahoma within the past year: the Grant Wind and Kay Wind facilities. Combined, these three wind projects total nearly 600 MW. Siemens is filling an order from Apex Clean Energy to deliver and service 64 wind turbines for the Grant Plains Wind facility located in Grant County, Oklahoma. The 147-MW project is expected to be operational later this year. This latest collaboration follows Siemens’ successful completion of two previous orders from Apex Clean Energy in Oklahoma within the past year: the Grant Wind and Kay Wind facilities, both owned by Southern Company subsidiary, Southern Power. Combined, these three wind projects total nearly 600 MW. “We are very pleased to receive an additional order from Apex Clean Energy to supply turbines and service in Oklahoma, strengthening the state’s national leadership in wind energy,” said Jacob Andersen, CEO Onshore Americas, Siemens Wind Power and Renewables Division. Grant Plains Wind will feature Siemens’ SWT-2.3-108 wind turbine, with a rotor diameter of 108 meters and a hub height of 80 meters. The Siemens SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines are part of the company’s G2 platform of onshore geared products – the workhorse of Siemens’ installed portfolio – with rotor diameters optimized for all wind conditions. The G2 platform features highly engineered, designed, and manufactured components, exceptional reliability and low operational costs for an optimized return on investment. “Siemens and Apex have established a great working relationship on these three Oklahoma projects, and we look forward to seeing Grant Plains cross the finish line this year,” added Mark Goodwin, president and COO of Apex. A long-term service and maintenance agreement was signed for the turbines and includes Siemens’ remote-monitoring and diagnostic services, which offer a proactive approach to service and maintenance to help bolster the performance of the turbines during their lifetime. The nacelles and hubs for the Grant Plains Wind facility have been assembled at the Siemens facility in Hutchinson, Kansas, and the blades have been manufactured at the Siemens blade facility in Fort Madison, Iowa. Siemens has a 64,000-square-foot wind service distribution center in Woodward, Oklahoma. Nearly 6,000 Siemens wind turbines are installed in the United States, capable of producing clean, renewable power for more than 4.2 million households every day. Siemens recently achieved the 14-GW installed capacity milestone in the Americas, with over 7,300 installed wind turbines.
