The automatic FAG-Velomatic gearshift system is in series production in six new Kalkhoff pedelecs, guaranteeing an all-new cycling experience on two wheels. The highlights of the new Kalkhoff E-City models Include Premium i8 ES and Select i8 ES are impressive: a practically maintenance-free belt drive in combination with a hub gearshift, backpedal disk brake, Bluetooth display, navigation app, and now – for the first time in series production – faster, more precise, and quieter gear changes with the FAG- Velomatic. Even greater comfort is hardly possible. Pure Cycling Dynamics: Always in the Right Gear Pushing lightly on the electronic gearshift button is enough to comfortably change the gear. It is even easier in fully automatic mode, available as an option: The FAG- Velomatic uses the cycling speed and slope to constantly calculate the optimum gear and shifting time and independently operates the gearshift via the cable pull. Handy side effect: Compared to pedelecs with manual shifting, pedelecs with an FAG-Velomatic have a longer range, since the electric motor constantly works at the optimum operating point in line with the cyclist’s wishes. Pure Cycling Comfort: Starting Again in Low Gear The rider of a pedelec with an FAG-Velomatic can individually program his/her startup gear. After every stop, the FAG-Velomatic automatically shifts to the startup gear – a feature that even experienced pedelec riders describe as very comfortable. Able to Be Integrated in Any Pedelec with CAN-Bus Kalkhoff makes use of the various open communication standards offered by Schaeffler in order to integrate the FAG-Velomatic into the Kalkhoff drive system. Thanks to its small design – with a diameter of only 25 mm and a length of around 200 mm – it is very easy to integrate this manufacturer-independent system into a frame tube so that it is hidden from view. In this way, it does not detract from the bicycle design.
