Senvion has secured its first contract in India to deliver 220 wind turbines with a total power generation capacity of more than 500MW. The contract has been signed under a firm framework agreement and received by Senvion from one of the large Indian independent power producers (IPP). Senvion's chief executive officer Jürgen Geissinger said: “Earlier this year we announced our decision to enter the Indian market. “Now we are proud to present this firm framework agreement that is the start of a strong future cooperation. This contract emphasises our planned growth story in India.” Expected to be installed from Q4 of next year until 2019, the 220 new turbines will comprise units from the portfolio of Senvion’s recently acquired German company Kenersys. "We are working relentlessly to reduce levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of wind energy." Commissioning of the first site of the project is expected to take place by the end of next year. Senvion's India managing director Amit Kansal said: “This is a milestone agreement for Senvion in India. We are in a great position to contribute towards the India's renewable energy targets with our technology. “Simultaneously we are working relentlessly to reduce levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of wind energy and also building stable relationships with our customers.” Once delivery of the entire order is complete, the new project will be able to generate enough renewable energy to meet power demands of more than 700,000 households in India. A Senvion service centre has already been established in India. It will be responsible for maintaining the turbines over the next ten years.
